Connect an AI client to Impact Gate

Copy-paste setup for connecting Claude, Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, or ChatGPT to the hosted Impact Gate MCP server.

On this page

Before you begin#

You need an Impact Gate account with at least one connected, indexed workspace - set that up first with the quickstart. Connecting a client then takes about a minute: you paste one URL, the client discovers everything else, and you sign in with Google when the browser page opens. There are no API keys.

The only value you need
https://mcp.impactgate.in/

Claude (web and desktop)#

  1. Open connector settings

    In Claude, go to Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.

  2. Add Impact Gate

    Name the connector Impact Gate, paste https://mcp.impactgate.in/ as the remote MCP server URL, and confirm.

  3. Connect and sign in

    Choose Connect on the new connector. Your browser opens the Impact Gate consent page; continue with Google to authorize the impact:read scope.

  4. Use it

    The Impact Gate tools are now available in conversations. Try asking: what is the status of my Impact Gate workspace?

Custom connectors added by URL work on Claude's Free plan as well as Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise. Adding a connector by URL is different from the paid directory listing; both reach the same server.

Claude Code#

Add the server
claude mcp add --transport http impact-gate https://mcp.impactgate.in/
  1. Register the server

    Run the command above in your terminal. It stores the server under the name impact-gate.

  2. Authenticate

    Start claude, run /mcp, select impact-gate, and choose Authenticate. Your browser opens the consent page for Google sign-in.

  3. Ask for evidence

    The six Impact Gate tools appear in the session. For example: use Impact Gate to find consumers of the catalog API before I change it.

Cursor#

Add the server in Cursor's MCP settings, or create .cursor/mcp.json in your project (or ~/.cursor/mcp.json globally):

mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "impact-gate": {
      "url": "https://mcp.impactgate.in/"
    }
  }
}

Enable the server in the MCP list. Cursor detects that authorization is required and opens your browser for the Google consent page; after sign-in the tools become available to the agent.

VS Code#

Create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace, or use the MCP: Add Server command and choose HTTP:

.vscode/mcp.json
{
  "servers": {
    "impact-gate": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://mcp.impactgate.in/"
    }
  }
}

Start the server from the MCP view. VS Code runs the OAuth flow in your browser; after the Google sign-in, Impact Gate tools are available in VS Code chat agent mode.

ChatGPT#

  1. Enable developer mode

    In a Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace on chatgpt.com, open Settings, then Apps & Connectors, and enable Developer mode.

  2. Create the connector

    Choose Create, name it Impact Gate, and paste https://mcp.impactgate.in/ as the MCP server URL.

  3. Sign in

    Complete the OAuth flow in the browser with your Google account.

After connecting#

A quick way to confirm everything works is to ask the assistant for your workspace status. The answer should name your workspace, list indexed repositories with their exact commits, and state when the index was generated. If the client instead reports an authorization error, re-run its connect or authenticate command to repeat the browser sign-in.
